Tempe Elite Cabinets provides professional soft-close & pull-out systems in Tempe, AZ for residential and commercial properties across the Salt River Valley. Soft-close and pull-out shelves are the retrofit most Tempe kitchens should do before they do anything cosmetic, and a full kitchen of both usually lands between $1,200 and $3,500. You keep the cabinets you have and change the part you touch forty times a day. It's the least glamorous work we sell and the work people thank us for most.
The hardware is Blum or Grass. Blumotion soft-close on the hinges, undermount slides under the drawer boxes rated 75 to 100 pounds, and roll-out trays built from 3/4-inch plywood with dovetailed maple sides rather than the stapled birch trays that come in a box from a catalog. Undermount slides hide under the tray and give you the full width of the opening. Side-mount slides are cheaper, cost you an inch of width, and rattle. In a face-frame cabinet, both need rear mounting brackets or a set of ledgers, because there's nothing at the back of a 1968 cabinet to screw to except air.
The measurement that trips everybody up is the opening, not the cabinet. A 24-inch face-frame cabinet has a frame stile stealing an inch or more on each side plus the hinge hardware, so the tray that fits is closer to 20 inches wide, not 22. Order off the cabinet width and you'll own a tray that doesn't go in. Measure the narrowest point of the actual opening with the door open, then subtract for the slide.
There's a reason this matters more in Tempe than in a wetter city. From mid-June into September, monsoon outflow winds push a fine dust through a house well before the rain gets there, and it settles on everything that isn't behind a door. Open shelving and the airy pot racks that look great in Papago Park sunset photos are a wiping chore here. Closed storage with soft-close hardware and tight reveals keeps the grit out, and the soft-close part means the doors are actually shut instead of resting an eighth of an inch open.
One more climate note. Wood moves when the air goes from 15 percent humidity to 45 percent in a storm week, and a drawer front that was dead level in May can sit a hair proud in August. Undermount slides with a three-way front adjuster let you correct that in seconds. Older epoxy-coated side slides don't adjust at all, which is why people assume their cabinets are failing when they're just breathing.
The opinion that keeps us honest: if you're already refacing, do this at the same time and save a whole mobilization. And if your kitchen is a face-frame set from the sixties with three-quarter-extension epoxy slides and no reface planned, retrofitting soft-close everywhere can approach the cost of new drawer boxes with better hardware. At that point we'd rather build you the boxes.
A whole kitchen takes a day or two to fit out. Every hinge gets adjusted at the end, every tray gets test-loaded, and the doors get set to a consistent reveal off one another rather than off the frame, since the frame is rarely straight enough to trust.

Materials, equipment and how we do soft-close & pull-out systems
The difference between soft-close & pull-out systems that lasts and soft-close & pull-out systems that gets redone in three years is almost always preparation and materials, not the finish you see on day one. We work with furniture-grade plywood boxes, solid maple dovetail drawers, Blum and Grass soft-close hardware, frameless European construction, spec them to the job instead of to the invoice, and write the material grades into the free estimate so you know exactly what you are buying.
Every Tempe job runs the same way: site walk and measurements, written scope and fixed price, protection of the surrounding area, then the work itself with a daily clean-up. 15+ years of cabinet work in the Salt River Valley means we have already met whatever your property is going to throw at us — awkward access, older construction, an HOA with opinions.
